Electrical Trades Licensing Course in WA


CSTA, or the Combined Skills Training Association, are a Registered Training Organisation or RTO with the Training Accreditation Council of Western Australia. One of the main objectives of the CSTA is to provide electrical industry training that is relevant and up-to-date.

As most of our course participants are experienced, time-served electrical tradespersons, training focuses on course delivery under the principles of Adult Learning.

Integracom in conjunction with the CSTA WA are now working together to deliver the Electrical Trades Licensing Course (ETL) in Western Australia (Please note this course is only applicable for applicants who wish to work in WA).

Course Overview

This course has primarily been developed to ensure that persons holding an Australian Recognised Trade Certificate in the trades of Electrical Mechanics or Electrical Fitting are provided with the skills and knowledge to be issued with a Western Australian Electrician Licence.

Participants in this qualification are typically migrants seeking to apply for Western Australian Electrician's Licence in order to gain entry into the Western Australian Electrotechnology Industry. Typically they will have undergone a skilled migration process involving the Vocational Education Training Assessment Scheme (VETASSESS) or be apart of the Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) program.

The qualification is also designed for those who have been advised by the Western Australian Electrical Licensing Board to undergo a competency assignment.

Course Content

  • Identify and interpret industrial and electrical safety requirements, including workshop safety, fire extinguishers, out of service danger tags, isolations
  • Identify and apply basic first air requirements, including effects of electric shock, CPR treatment of injuries
  • Identify and interpret Australian Standards and statutory publications including licensing requirements and obligations
  • Use Australian Standards to interpret electrical safety and circuit protection including earthing and bonding, fuses, circuit breakers and RCS's, fault current levels, domestic switch board design connection
  • Implement inspection and testing procedures for electrical equipment and installations. Interpret Australian Standards and Regulations
  • Interpret and complete all statutory

Course Entry Requirements

All applicants must apply to the WA Electrical Licensing Regulator, Energy Safety for permission to enrol on the course, Applicants must also have a working knowledge both written and spoken English.

Course Duration

  • Forty hours (40) Class Attendance
  • Forty hours (40) Remote Study - Course Manual Provided
  • Total of Eighty (80) hours

WA Electrical Workers Licence

Application for a WA Electrical Workers Licence should made to the WA Department of Commerce, energy Safety Licensing Branch on (08) 9422 5282 on successful completion of the course.

  • 14 days or more prior to commencement - 100% refund
  • 7 - 13 days prior to course commencement 90% refund
  • Less than 1 weeks prior notice to course commencement - No refund
