Combined Structured, Optical & Coaxial Cabling Course
Course Outline
This course is designed to provide practical knowledge in the telecommunications cabling industry.
This nationally accredited course covers the essential elements of installation, termination and testing requirements for a technician to gain the three important endorsements they can add to their Open Registration
being:
- Structured Cabling (SCS)
- Optical Fibre (OF)
- Coaxial Cabling (CO)
All courses are based on Australian installation standards.

Course Outcome
Technicians who successfully complete this course will be awarded a competency certificate for all three endorsements that may be used to contribute to a Cert III in Telecommunications.
In WA and SA this course is approved for ADC Krone Certification.
Course Delivery
This is a five-day or ten evening course which includes hands on practicals
of copper and optical fibre terminations including testing using level 3
test devices, power and light source meters as well as OTDR test equipment.
Course Content
This course is based on Australian Standards AS/ACIF S009:2006,AS/ACIF S008:2006 and AS 3080
Copper UTP and Coaxial
- Understanding digital transmission
- UTP, FTP, shielding, earthing

- Structured cabling components
- Connector types and modules
- Categories and Transmission Performance
- Understanding RF Frequencies
- Installation practices
- Class C, Class D, Class E Permanent Links and Channel Testing requirements
and techniques.
Fibre
- Fibre Installation practices and safety
- Understanding light propagation
Transmission characteristics
- Fusion splicing
- Mechanical splicing
- Testing and fault finding
Pre-Requisites
There are no pre-requisites to attend the course but it is recommended that a student has completed an Open Registration before attending the Course.

Construction Rebate WA only
- In Western Australia CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FUND approval is normally applicable for students either currently working in the construction Industry or have worked in the construction industry within the last three months
- Cost is $350 if CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FUND approved
- It must be noted that this rebate scheme is an arrangement between the student and the CONSTRUCTION TRAINING FUND. Integracom Management Group and its associated companies do not form part of that arrangement.
